Find a role model that you can trust. Starting out with no knowledge is tough, so having a friend who has traveled a few years further down the path can be a real help. However, you should chose your role model wisely, If you are a hard gainer, who is going it drug free, then don't choose the 250lb juicer as your go-to guy.

Rule #2 Magazine Fetish
Hey I love the muscle rags just as much as the next guy, but be smart enough to understand what is going on with those things. There is a business being operated behind those glossy pages of rippled muscle.
Magazine publishers are peddling any information that will earn a dime. It is up to you to use your brain to figure out what is true and not. Get help from your role model if you have questions.
Rule #3 Avoid The Roids
I am not going to get on an anti drug kick, however I will say that jumping into drugs as a beginning body builder is an extremely dangerous endeavor. It is a move that is driven by fear, fear that you will never gain, fear that your body wont respond.
Rest assured that given the proper training and nutrition your body will respond. So make pact with yourself that you will not join the juicers. If you cannot make the pact forever at least hold off until you are FULLY aware of the risks versus the rewards.
Rule #4 Learn About Your Body
Hey its called body building right? So it might be wise to learn how you body works. This education will save you from tons of wasted time, wasted money and injuries.
For instance did you know that the primary motion of the biceps is to rotate the wrist? That's right, it is not curling that stimulates the biceps but twisting the the wrist so that the thumb rotates away from the body (supination). How would that knowledge change your arm training?
Rule #5 Watch Your Form
The thing that will kill your muscle gain more than anything is injury. Injury can be avoided by using proper form. Proper form can only be learned by repetition. So force yourself to practice using proper form. Because believe me while using bad form may be dangerous at 60 lbs it is even more dangerous when you can lift 400 lbs.
